Geothermal heating collects heat from water the earth. Water running through buried pipes collects the heat from the earth and circulates it through a heat pump that transfers the heat throughout a building or home. In the summer, the geothermal heat pump reverses this heat-moving process, removing the heat from the building and transferring it to the ground.
Alpha Geoscience personnel provide design support services for geothermal heating and cooling systems. Services provided include:
Site Evaluation
Geothermal heat pumps can be effectively used almost anywhere. However, the specific geological, hydrological, and spatial characteristics of your land will help your local system supplier/installer determine the best type of ground loop for your site. Site evaluation may include:
- Thermal conductivity testing for closed loop systems
- Well yield testing for open loop systems
- Water quality testing for system design
- Assessment of open loop water discharge options

Geothermal Design Assistance
Alpha can also provide design assistance once the heating and cooling requirements have been defined and the site has been evaluated to determine the most suitable geothermal heat exchange option. Assistance can be provided for:
- Bore footage calculations
- Loop-field layout
- Open loop supply/injection well installations
